Inquiry Term 4

Description: This term we have been doing inquiry every Thursday, we split into our inquiry groups, I am with James we do 3D printing. We design our creations on an app called sketch up then James prints them. I work with Sophie we have made a mug, a paw print keyring, and a dog tag all in 3D.

Our focus for this inquiry is future genurations and how we can benefit the next geniration of R.S.S kids. We are benefitting the next generation by creating objects that that others only dream of making.

Our other focus is out of the box thinking  Sophie and I have been thinking out of the box to make our inquiry have a purpose.

How might your inquiry help you in the future?
I think that it will help the next generation of R.S.S kids because we have gained more knowledge about the 3D printer so it should print things faster.

What made you choose this inquiry? 
I really like the idea of 3D printing it was very futuristic and I thought it would be cool to inspire others to use 3D printers.  

What was your proudest moment in inquiry? Finally being able to print my things after ages and ages of waiting and waiting for my things to print.

How did you achieve your goal?  What skills, support, values did you use?
In the end I was able to print my creation and I learnt how to calabarate the computer. 
I used the skills I already knew about printing and 3D printing to enhance my inquiry time with James  

How will our inquiry groups impact the future? 
The 3D printer could help countries all over the world some people have even made parts for hostipal machines. 

Here is my most reacent printed creation.
It is a tag for my bag I like it because it represents me, I love animals and this was the best way to show that.

Why do you think the boy was in a odd mood? Because Petronas was creeping him out and he wanted to leave.

What did they find weird about the city?
It kept changing and getting bigger all the time
What is your prediction next?
 They will leave the city Petronas 

What do you think the bird has to do with this?
I think that the bird owns petronas and it is putting the nomads to sleep so they will leave and also I think that the bird is making the city bigger and I think it feeds on people’s energy.

This new world is giving them the creeps and more and more people are going unconscious

Book Bash

Description: This term we are doing book bash we choose our three favourite book out of 11 I chose Esio trot, Petronius and This Land We Call Home, then we got put into groups, my book is Petronas, this is my pre workshop activity

What made you choose this book?
What appeals to you?
What hooked you in?
1: Title 
The title was so thing I had never heard before it as mysterious I wanted to know more I wanted to find out what it meant, it was weird but yet amazing.

2: The blurb: The blurb really hooked me in, it they had thought so out of the box thinking and that hooked me in, I really wished I could start reading today.

3: Cover design: The cover design could have been better as in more pizaz but then it wouldn't have hooked me in because it wouldn't have been the same book.  

My prediction:
I think that the girl is going to get really sick, but then with the care of the wild animals she is fine again.

Pae Tamariki

Description: On the 31 of July the schools kapahaka groups went to the regent to do Pae Tamariki. Pae Tamariki is a performance to share our passion for maori culture. Four schools Participated in it. We got to see what other schools did for kapahaka.

Big Idea: 

At Pae Tamariki, I felt nervous because there were so many people watching and it was my first kapahake performance. 

I felt most proud of finishing the performance and being proud and making the audience happy.

I found Remembering all the actions and lyrics challenging because I felt like I hadn't practiced enough. 

I managed this challenge by using the meaning of the lyrics to help with the actions.

At Kapa Haka, I next want to Master the old songs so I can learn new songs.

Wow Tabs you have made a great start to kapa haka. you did really well at the performance, as it was your first time. I agree with you on that you need to work on your actions and lyrics but i think that you could get them nailed by the end of the year. - Aria

Maths Portfolio Sample

Description: This term we have been working on division and multiplication, we have been working on questions that are not easy to solve, in our workshops we worked on these questions. 

Big Idea: 

This is the box method you can use the box method in times X e.g (16X12) and divided by. You draw a box then you divide the number into the easiest numbers to work with. 

I find the box method quite challenging because I just learnt it and it is very confusing, you don't know what numbers to split and what numbers to put in the box. 

Feeedback\Feedforward: I noticed you have trouble with the box method. To get better at using the box method you could practice it at home or with your independent math.

Passion Projects Term 3

Description: This term we have been doing passion projects,  We chose something that we are really passionate about, I chose to do my passion project on Tielcey Park, the Horse Padocks, up past Arshurst, because I am extremely passionate about horses and I ride horses. we  had to Use the P.A.S.S.I.O.N inquiry process to investigate my passion independently/in small groups.

Big Idea: I learnt about improving Tielcey Park. I talked to Dave the builder, we talked about drainege systems, so I can drain out Tielcey Park, so that is not so wet and muddy for the horses. Dave said that there were two ways to do it, you have one pipe running underneath the ground and then it goes out into plants then the plant would soke it up, or you could run five pipes underneath then they connect up and the end and flush out to sea.

Evaluation: I think I have done well so far, my next steps are to make the stable complex, and think about which drainege sytem to use.

Feedback\feedfoward: Wow Tabitha I think your passion project is going to make a big change to Tielcey =ark. The owners will thank you. I think you should pick the one when the dirty water gos to the plants. Otherwise i think you are doing really well with your passion project.

"Hello people, today there is a huge commotion up above the dam I have no idea what their doing, all I know is they are making a lot of noise and it's bothering me, oh they are so rude, did they ever consider the poor worms down below the dam, that is just being rude. By the way i'm                                                                                                                                      Johnny, and i'm a worm, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, a boulder just fell from the sky, there is major damage to the colony, and oh oh my god i'm am now two worms, instead of one big long worm, this is a tragedy, i'm sorry i have to end the story before I die".

Writing Sample

Description: This term we have been put into writing groups I am in Troy's writing group we have been writing about this picture. We brain stormed about everything we saw in this picture, we chose a type of writing, and the presective of one of the characters I chose narrative for the type and one of the fish for the character.


Big Idea:
 After I finished my story I went back and added more detail and  My goal is Complex sentences I decied to do Complex sentences as my goal because I am not using it much in my writing. Here is my story!

Johnny's Story
(Stuck in a Fishnado)

Recount Fish's point of view

"Ahhhhhh, where did the shark go, i'm serious where did the shark go, there he is, there he is ahhhhhh swim away, come on granny come on faster faster FASTER!!!!! The shark is right there SWIM you idiotic fish! Tootoot toot watch out the shark is right there TOOTOOT MOVE YOU LAZY BUM. Okay now that the shark is at least 20 meters away I can introduce myself i'm Johnny, and this is my family right now were in a crazy school because there is a shark chasing us, I am in charge of the school, which can has it good times and it's bad times, and here we go again i'll see you well as soon as i'm not swimming for my life....   bye".

"Right I'm back so now we can talk so my name is Johnny, I live in the Pacific Ocean, and I'm in charge of the school. I have a lovely wife 999 kids and 300 grandchildren, okay I don't have a normal family but I love them all, kinda".

"Okay everybody swim for your life, but keep protecting the younger ones and the pregnant ladies, boys I'm talking to you! OH Tootoot the shark watch out. (Warning the following words may be sad)  Tootoot noooooo that is the end of Tootoot and granny. The Sharks just won't leave us alone I mean two fish just died, and they were the most beautiful and important fish in the Ocean", Jonny their dead now you don't have to pretend that their awesome", " that's great I hated those fish, thank god their dead".

Then I saw her, the love of my life Sky she was so beautiful no no no no Sky watch out, I dived in front of her and the shark caught me I swam away but he had my tail, my tail came free it teared of I sank to the bottom Sky was gone I was dying I felt empty dead and then it happened "my blood ran cold my scales came off I died".

Production Portfolio

Description: This term we are going to the regent for production the theme is wearibale arts and we had to create a mood board and a plan. For our wearibale art piece every Friday we work on our plan.
We are all in different groups I am in elements and I chose the element of fire.

This is my progress so far

What: I have made a mask I need to paint it, I made a spoke, and I painted it black.
Now What: My next step is to stick on the bits I have all ready made for the costume and paint my mask

Here is my finished garmend

1) The materials that I used to create my garment were: Cardboard smock, newspapaer, cardboard, paint, saliphane, tinfoil, cream bottles and a old hockey mask

2) The most challenging thing about production for me was: Everything was a challenge but the biggest challenge was, my mask, because nothing stuck to it.

3) One way I demonstrated a growth mindset during production was: Never giving up on my mask, so that I would look good on stage.

4) Something I am really proud of about production was: Finally finishing after weeks of hard work.

5) Our school vision is to create agency, creativity and excellence. I showed this by: Using old things and makeing them more than rubbish, like my brothers old hockey mask.

Big Idea:

This term we have been doing tic tac toes, we do them when we aren't in a workshop, depending on what goal we are. We choose any tic tac toe that has something to with our goal. My goal is summarising. I think I have been doing well at sticking to the main points when I summarise, I could improve on useing key words to wright my summaries, I know I am getting better at summerising because after I read something I can easily summerise the story in six or less sentences.

KapaHaka Portfolio Sample

Description: On monday afternoons we have kapahaka with Nic, Ebony and Rosie. We learn about the maori culture by singing songs that have meaning.

Big Idea: 

At kapahaka I enjoy learning about the maori culture because it's all really interesting.

I am most proud of learning the actions for Hou.


I find pronounceation challenging because some of the Maori words are really hard and confusing.

I am managing this challenge by going onto Rosie's blog and working with my mum on the pronunciation 

A personal goal for me is Remembering the actions for Karanga Karanga 

Our school wide focus this term has been around showing excellence. I show this at kapahaka by helping the little girls with their actions.

Feedback/Feedfoward: wow tabitha you have improved alot on your kapa haka since you started. you have been working very hard. One thing you need to work on is getting your heart into it, not just doing the actions and singing.

Maths Portfolio Sample

Description: In maths we have been learning stratigies and to use the best one depending on the Qusetion. We  could use any stratigie we could use Place Value Partioning, Equal Addations, Rounding and Compensating or Reversibility.

Big Idea: We had to find two or three amounts that answered the question, I used R\C and EA, R\C is plusing or taking one away from one of the numbers to make a tidy number ( A tidy number ends in a zero to make it easier to add to somthing or take away from something) EA is changing the number by adding or taking away but you have to keep it the same on both sides. 

Feedback\feedfoward: you did well I like how you presented it and you need to use more strategies 

Evaluation: Next time I could use more than two stratigies for each question.

Description: Our goal in writing has been conjunctions and connectives. I choose the goal because that is what needed to improve on the most other than some of the other goals that I was easy for me, I know that I am improving on this goal because I am using more conjunctions and connectives in my story.

A New Life

Step by step walking into my new invention, my time machine. As soon as I walk in I feel my head spinning, my tummy turning, my legs wobbling, then nothing, nothing but darkness. I take one step into the pitch black.

Then I see a figure, a weird kind of figure. I was too scared to move but the creature wasn't, it started to hurry towards me into it was right in front of me and said "hello Ruput I am Alfred will you help me destroy the earth?

" um um where are we how do you know my name what are you?

" I am a robot we are on Mars and I scanned you to find out your name, now will you help me destroy the earth?

" yes " said Ruput grinning. "

What is that machine" asked Alfred

"that is my time machine that is what brought me here on Mars.

Replied Ruput

" take me into it"


Once again I feel my head spinning, my tummy turning, my legs wobbling, then darkness in my face.

" where are we?"

" my scan says we are in New York City underwater."

"What lets get out of here"!!

"Okay where are we now"?

" We are in Sydney, Australia at 25 Sydney street"

" yes finally this is my home lets go here come into the garage come in hurry before anyone sees you."

"Who is that"

said Ruput "she is Hannah she lives next door to you" replied Alfred.

" I am going to go talk to her you go inside Alfred". Said Ruput

" but we are going to destroy the world" said  Alfred

"yeah we will but I might just talk to her okay"

"Hi welcome to the neighbourhood I live next door what's your name?"

" I'm Hannah nice to meet you do you want to come inside?"

" yeah sure by the way I'm Ruput"

" okay that's a weird name what's your real name?"

" it's Max"

" know that is a awesome name anyway what do you do for a job?"

" a job um um I am a evil scientist I'm building a evil robot to destroy the world"

" That's horrible do you want to rule the world?"

"  I did but now I want to be with you"

" so do I, Max can I come round to your house?"

"yeah sure"

" well here is my house"

" where's the robot" " he's over here but he will kill me if I don't help him so I'll trick him ready, you stay here okay "

" hey do you want an upgrade?"

" yes I do" replied Alfred"

" okay "

For the next hour he was connecting and disconnecting wires and cords.

" finally here I am Hannah "

" I love you max "

" I love you to Hannah"

And 1 year later they got married and lived happily ever after.

Reading Portfolio Task

Description: This term we have been doing tic tac toes, they are activities that we do in between workshops. My tic tac toes are based aroud comprhension, because that is my goal.

Big idea:
This tic tac toe is called double entry journal text to self.
we  had to realate a book that we are reading or have read to one of our own experiences. I chose a book called Mystic and the midnight ride by Stacy Gregg. I was making text to self connections which is relating a text to a experience of your own, Text to world is relating a text to somthing that is happening in the world, and Text to Text is realating a text from a book to another text form a book.

Science Portfolio Sample

Description: In science we have been leaning about a food web and this week we did a lunch box food web. We had to make a poster about our lunch box. We looked at our food and researched what that food was made of, then we drew the pictures of our food and made the connections, and joined it to the sun. If you took away the sun we would die and if you took away the grass we wouldn't have lamb or cows.

Big Idea: We found out that nothing comes from the supermarket and that we rely on the sun to produce ingredients for out food. If you took away the sun we would die and if you took away the grass we wouldn't have sheep or cows.

Inderpendent Writing tasks Week 5

Description: In cindy's writing group we have been learning what makes up a sentence, we had to find two animal pictures and write about them.

Concentration and eyes on ball, head and eyes up
Push hard off outside foot and go forwards to attack pass

Anticipate pass and player movement

Restrictive Marking:
Meet player as they start towards the ball/where they want to go
stay close to the attacking player
Head and eyes up, arms close to body to avoid obstruction/contact
Angle body so attacking player is ‘pushed’ away from where he/she wants to go

Evaluation: I think I did really well with keeping my head and eyes up, and my arms close to my body next time I could try kepping my arms within confines of body.

Te Ahu a Turanga Noho Marae

Description:  In week 7, we had an overnight stay at the local Marae in Woodville.  We were immersed in Maori culture and participated in a range of activities.  We set two goals to focus on during our stay.

Big Idea:  
1.  Did you achieve your goals?  How do you know? I know I achieved my goal because I tried every food even though some of them looked terribile and some of them diden't taste nice either.

2.  What are you most proud of from the marae stay and why? Getting through the gorge walk with out  stopping even though I had to limp back.

3.  What challenged you the most and why? The gorge walk because my leg was really sore.

Triangles With Troy

Description: We have been learning about Geometry for Maths for the past few weeks. We looked at all the different types of shapes and in particular triangles. We have learnt that there are 4 different types of triangles and we created something to share our understanding about each of them.

Big Idea: I worked with Zara on this activity, we were showing the different triangles and there properties. We also showed how many even sides and even angles. The triangle's were scalene, Isoceles, right angle and Equilateral.

Feedfoward\Feedback: I think it is good but you could mabye not laugh so much and stay professional  but overall it was great.

Evaluation: I think I did pretty well next time I could slow down my talking, and explain it a bit more.

Maths Symitry

Description: We have been learning about symmetry with Troy.
We were looking at how many letters of the alphabet are symetrical in capitals and lower case these are my findings.

In the capitals there are 15 letters that are symetrical I guessed 13 out of 26.

In the lower case there were 8 out of 26 that are symetrical I guessed 7 out of 26.

Why do birds have feathers and not fur?

Purpose: Create a story to share orally
Description: Oral storytelling is a Maori tradition. We have been planning our own story to tell on the Marae in Week 7.

Mysterious Bus Stop

Purpose: Describe the characteristics of an object.

Yeesturday   I came across this picture of a mysterious bus stop. I thought that is was different it was part of a broken school bus an extra ordanary bus stop with seats that were from a bus. Somthing that is broken down, made into a unusaul piece of art.
