Mathex Portfolio Sample 2016

Description: Every year something called Mathex is held at the Awapuni race course, Mathex is when 50 of the top mathmetions in the Manawatu get into groups of four organized by the math teacher of each school James the deputy principal organized our teams there were two year five teams, two year six teams and the reserves I was a year six reserve. There are two parts the practical where you have a sheet of questions that you need to answer in 15 minutes then there's the quick fire you get one question at a time once you have completed on the runner hands it in you get 3 chances before you automatically move on you have 15 minutes for this part as well. One of the year six teams finished 20th and the other team finished 39th, one of the year five teams finished 2nd and the other team finished 21st. James gave us a number of tests to decide how was going to go, he looked at how we worked in a team and our ability to solve problems. We practiced every day till it was time to compete, we did lots of quick fire maths and practical here is an example question.

Feedback\Feedforward: Tabitha I think you did a good job at practices and even though you were a reserve you keep trying and strived for excellence. I think you have improved so much in your maths ring I'm Mathex like me! Next time maybe you could have practiced more at home. Go Tabs! -Zara

Evaluation: Thanks for the feedback Zara, next time I could try harder in practices and be in an actual Mathex team instead of just being a reserve, but I have learnt a lot over the past 3 weeks and I think that I have improved maths skills and teamwork skills.

  1. Well done on completing a successful unit of learning with this mathex unit. There were a lot of concepts, knowledge and strategies to perfect in a short amount of time. You showed your skill in communicating your ideas and were able to build on your teammates ideas with clarity. Ka pai Tabitha.
